The educational and scientific laboratory of phytopathology functions with the purpose of wide involvement of scientific and pedagogical staff and applicants of education of all levels of university to carry out fundamental researches and realization of applied developments on priority directions of scientific and innovative activity.

Laboratory research is carried out in the following areas:

– study of the features of the biology of the causative agents of the most harmful diseases of crops and monitoring of their spread and development;

– study of biodiversity of micromycetes of agricultural crops;

– study of the peculiarities of the formation of epiphytosis of the most harmful diseases and identify factors that contribute or inhibit this process;

– research of the modern range of pesticides and fungicides, biological and economic substantiation of their use in integrated systems of protection of crops against diseases;

– development of strategies and tactics for the use of pesticides and fungicides based on the study of the structure and dynamics of populations of pathogenic species by sensitivity, in order to prevent the development of fungicidal resistance;

– search of non-chemical methods of crop protection against diseases.

The laboratory is a structural educational and scientific subdivision of  the Faculty of Agrotechnology and Environmental Use of Sumy National Agrarian University

The laboratory is located in the assigned auditorium № 11. The teacher’s workplace is equipped with the necessary materials, adapted for the use of technical means, etc. The laboratory is equipped with educational and visual stands, technical means of training.

The laboratory of phytopathology operates on territory and research and laboratory base of the university, has the appropriate material support. It promotes scientific seminars, scientific conferences, meetings of the student scientific group “Plant Protection”, develops the necessary scientific and methodological materials for the educational process in accordance with current educational and scientific work of the university. On the basis of modern methods of monitoring and control of harmful organisms the “Forecast of phytosanitary condition of agrocenoses and recommendations on protection of cultivated plants from pests, diseases and weeds in farms of Sumy region” is developed.

The laboratory is a base for laboratory and practical classes for higher education students in educational programs 202 “Plant Protection and Quarantine”, 201 “Agronomy”, 206 “Garden design”, 205 “Forestry” in the following disciplines:

Applicants study in the laboratory the types of pathogens of crops, plantations. In the process of training and research, pathogens are identified using the latest techniques. Mycological collections are supported and replenished.

Binocular microscope XSP-10-1250 (used for routine or general phytopathological examination by the light field method);

Box of pure cultures (for selection of pure cultures and their sowing on Petri dishes);

Air sterilizer GPO-50 (designed for sterilization of various instruments, laboratory utensils, etc.);

Dry air thermostat TSO-80 (with cooling, designed to obtain and maintain inside the working chamber a stable temperature required for bacteriological and serological tests);

Digital camera-eyepiece (used to record research results);

Monocular microscopes P14 (intended for research of drugs in light, light field during training sessions, laboratory work; laboratory);

Refrigerator (used for storage of reagents and test samples);

Torsion scales (a physical device designed to measure small forces or moments of force);

Laboratory scales BTU 2100 (designed for accurate weighing of various substances and materials);

Laboratory glassware (used for phytopathological examinations (slides and coverslips, large, small flasks, pipettes, funnels, test tube racks, test tubes, bottles for distilled water and alcohol, dispensers, large measuring cylinders, small, sterile Petri dishes, etc.) ;
