Educational and scientific laboratory of PCR-diagnostics was created within the project “Improving skills in laboratory practice for agri-food specialists in eastern Europe” (Ag-Lab) Program Erasmus +, project KA2 n ° 586383-EPP-1-2017-1- SI-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP (2017-2978 / 001-001) (Improving laboratory practice skills for specialists in the agri-food sector in Eastern Europe, (Agro-Lab, Erasmus + program)).
The laboratory operates to broadly involve research and teaching staff and students of all levels of the university to conduct basic research and development of applied developments in priority areas of research and innovation, skills for working with complex laboratory equipment, molecular biological and genetic research.
Laboratory research is carried out in the following areas:
- marker selection of crops, the use of DNA markers closely linked to loci that determine the valuable economic characteristics of plants;
- genetics of plant immunity, detection of infectious diseases;
- isolation of genetic material, cloning of genes and their fragments;
- diagnosis and identification of GMOs in sowing and planting material, feed and food;
- study of the genetic basis of phenotypic variability at the molecular level to identify chromosome loci;
- determination of genetic diversity of biological objects and phylogenetic relatedness at the level of varieties, species;
- mapping of genomes for more accurate genetic certification of plant varieties.
The laboratory is a structural educational and scientific subdivision of the Faculty of Agrotechnologies and Environmental Use.
The main tasks of the laboratory are:
- conducting laboratory and practical classes with students of specialties 201 “Agronomy”, 202 “Plant protection and quarantine” at a high scientific, methodological and technical levels;
- assistance in the implementation of scientific work of students, graduate students and teachers;
- promoting the quality of training of specialists in Agronomy and Plant protection through the implementation of practical and creative components of the content of education;
- systematic updating and improvement of the training and laboratory base, technical means of training, computerization and informatization of the educational process;
- creation of safe working conditions at workplaces in accordance with the requirements of current legislation.
The laboratory is located in auditorium № 13. The teacher’s workplace is equipped with a demonstration table, visualization tools, devices for the use of technical teaching aids, etc. The laboratory is equipped with visual aids, technical teaching aids, stands, sectional cabinets for storing instruments, visual equipment, fume hood for working with reagents, high-tech equipment for molecular genetic research.
The laboratory operates on the squares and research and laboratory facilities of the university, has the appropriate material support. It promotes scientific seminars, scientific schools, scientific conferences, symposia and congresses, develops the necessary scientific and methodological materials for the educational process in accordance with current and future areas of educational and scientific work of the university.
The laboratory is a base for laboratory classes for applicants for higher education in educational programs 201 “Agronomy”, 202 “Plant Protection and Quarantine”, in the following disciplines:
- Genetics;
- Cell and molecular biology;
- Genetics of immunity to pathogens and pests;
- Genetic engineering;
- General virology;
- Molecular virology;
- Instrumental methods of analysis;
- Diagnosis and identification of GMOs, DNA certification;
- Special genetics of field crops;
- Varietal resources and their formation;
- Biotechnology in crop production;
- Biotechnology in agriculture.
Applicants study the methods of molecular biology: DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, DNA separation by gel electrophoresis.
Agricultural enterprises, farms, gardeners are offered cooperation:
- diagnostics of sowing and planting material, as well as agricultural products for the presence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs);
- molecular genetic diagnostics of pathogens of bacterial and viral diseases of agricultural crops;
- arbitration functions on varietal type of sowing and planting material;
- detection of genes for resistance of plant pathogens to pesticides.

The laboratory has modern devices and equipment:
The Bio – Rad T-100 amplifier (thermal cycler, PCR machine) is a device that provides periodic cooling and heating of test tubes, usually with an accuracy of at least 0.1 ° C. The amplifier is used in molecular biology to amplify DNA by polymerase chain reaction.
Centrifuge for DNA isolation Votreks MS-3500 – used in the processing of tissues, cells, as well as for DNA isolation.
UV box sterile for PCR UVB-1 is used for clean work with DNA samples. Provides protection of the tested samples from contamination by foreign material (contamination).
Horizontal chamber for electrophoresis Sub Cell GT – used to separate DNA fragments in length. The method is based on different speeds of fragments of different lengths when moving in the gel under the action of an external electric field. During electrophoresis, DNA fragments migrate in the gel under the influence of electric field forces. Electrophoresis is performed in a chamber filled with buffer solution.
The UV Uviev Mini transilluminator is a source of UV light used to induce fluorescent radiation that occurs in a dye between two strands of DNA or double-stranded RNA. Used to detect nucleic acid molecules separated by gel electrophoresis.
Solid state thermostat TT-12 – designed to maintain a constant temperature of the samples in microtubes, which are placed in the holes of the aluminum block. The wells have a thermostatic test tube profile. Designed for long-term incubation at different temperatures.
The system of video recording and processing of results “Biotest” – used at the final stage of PCR and allows to record the results of research for further processing and interpretation.
The Microspin 12BS-010113-AA1 centrifuge intended for separation of inhomogeneous liquid systems in the field of centrifugal forces. Can be used in chemical, biochemical, biological, environmental and medical research.
The RV-12 mini-rotator – designed for soft vertical mixing of any biological materials, including proteins and other organic compounds, their incubation and cultivation.
DPOP-1 and Proline Sartorius variable volume dispensers are used for dosing liquid reagents.
Vacuum extractor BB-1 – a device for removing liquids and supernatants.
ph-meter 56ph – a device for determining the acidity of buffer solutions and other reagents.
Power supply SPN300-03C is an electrical device required to provide direct current during electrophoresis.
Electronic scales FEH-300 – required for weighing biological samples and bulk materials.
The Liebher G1223 freezer is used for long-term storage of DNA / RNA samples and preparations.
ATLANT MXM 2835-95 refrigerator is designed for storage of samples, reagents and incubation of nucleic acids.
PC Pentium G4400 – used to store and process research results, as well as visualization and demonstration of photo and video files.
Computer ASUS V222GAK-WA003D (90PT0212-M00780) – designed to visualize the results of nucleic acid electrophoresis in agarose gel.
Exhaust hood SHV-1 – designed to work with a variety of reagents, including volatile compounds.
